Our Values

Mission

At Sekar Kawung, we promote sustainable development and social justice in Indonesia by exploring the connections between economics, ecological sustainability, and local culture. We aim to support local communities in enhancing their production of traditional goods for modern markets while preserving their cultural practices that protect the ecological integrity of their landscapes.

Our hope is that Sekar Kawung can become a broader bridge for traditional artisans and communities with markets. This way we can help to keep biodiversity and local cultures alive and thriving, as local economies grow within the communities that we work with.

Values

We are committed to inclusivity, creativity, and holistic learning, while supporting gender equality and valuing local knowledge. We strive for accessibility and good governance, and continuously adapt innovative technologies to benefit the communities we serve.

Our Journey

Since 2015 Sekar Kawung works alongside local and indigenous communities across several regions in Indonesia, including Tuban, Klaten, Ngawi, Kapuas Hulu, and Beringin Tinggi. We believe each place has its own history, ecology, and ways of living with nature.

Our work grows from these local contexts. We develop community-rooted economies by weaving cultural practices, biodiversity, and market-oriented product innovation. Through participatory action research, communities take an active role in shaping the process, whether through capacity building, economic initiatives, or ongoing Research and Development

Rather than short-term projects, Sekar Kawung commits to long-term collaboration. Through continuous learning, experimentation, and reflection with local and youth communities, we co-design biocultural systems and resilient economies that evolve together.
