The charm of Indonesian textiles once again emerged as a star among the creations of Indonesian designers at Fashion Nation 2024. Held in the atrium of Senayan City, the show featured diverse creations from Cita Tenun Indonesia and Toko Didiyo, including Sejauh Mata Memandang, Tangan Prive, and the Asha label, born from the mind of designer Oscar Lawalata.

Embracing Balinese endek weaving, Solo lurik weaving, and Lombok's anteng belt weaving, Cita Tenun Indonesia, through its collaboration with Toko Didiyo, successfully captured the essence of Indonesia's rich woven fabrics and made them fresh and youthful in each design. The striped and geometric motifs familiar in Balinese and lurik weaving were dynamically combined with floral accents and touches of lace. The light, casual fabrics made woven fabrics a charming everyday wear option.

While Toko Didiyo's previous creations featured vibrant colors, the Sejauh Mata Memandang label focused on a neutral palette and indigo blue. Partnering with expert artisans from Craft Denim, Sekar Kawung, Mugi Batik, CV Rabersa, and Shibiru, their creations successfully blended harmoniously while highlighting the charm of each Indonesian fabric on display. CV Rabersa, a Nanas fiber artisan, collaborated with Mugi Batik in Pekalongan, who then processed the fiber into a jacquard weave. The widely worn denim material is made from cotton woven by Craft Denim and naturally dyed by Shibiru artisans from Temanggung, Central Java. This collective work garnered much admiration from audiences when it was showcased on the Fashion Nation stage.

Asha's fashion show featured a distinctly black palette. This was theatrically demonstrated through transparent black umbrellas that accompanied each model as she walked. Using a multitude of materials adorned with rich textures, Asha successfully transformed the black palette into an attractive and stylish look. It could be a timeless fashion choice that can be worn for years to come.

Closing the series, the Tangan Prive collection presents a breath of fresh air in modern Indonesian textiles. Using songket weaving as its primary material, Tangan, through its captivating deconstructive techniques, reimagines the classic silhouettes of traditional Indonesian clothing and presents them as contemporary, statement-making pieces.
